Just a few small words

My post encouraging people struggling with mental health inspired a reader to send this article: “Small acts of kindness matter more than you think.”

Backed by tons of research, the article argues, “Text a friend, write a thank-you note, compliment a stranger — people appreciate these gestures.”

Boy do they. If you give yourself a moment, you’ll be able to recall all sorts of times where people pointed out your value.

I remember the day Dad pulled the riding mower over to where I was push-mowing.

“It is a pleasure to mow after you,” he said. Apparently my wide trim work was making his life easy.

I was probably 12 when that happened. I still remember it!

I remember walking up behind a client as he said to his team, “That Mark’s a miracle worker, isn’t he?”

It didn’t make my day. It made my month.

If you need a logical reason to do this, please know that I mowed the yard and worked for my client even more faithfully after those words.

But as the article says, just giving the positive feedback may be the blessing you need today.

What words have you shared with your team to help them know they are valuable?

A word fitly spoken
is like apples of gold in a setting of silver.
