I came into the kitchen to this.
My eldest had an idea to give her siblings (and herself) personalized ninja decorations.
(Ninjas are a big deal around here. My generation had Storm Shadow and the other G.I. Joe ninjas. Her generation has Lego’s Ninjago. At least ninjas are still popular.)
She wanted to represent each sibling’s hair style and to make the suits in their favorite colors.
I took this photo for a few reasons:
- To remind me how thoughtful my daughter is.
- To try to imagine me putting that much effort into something at her age.
- To capture that notebook at the bottom of the photo.
Do you see what she’s done? She sketched out her idea, including a template for how to make the cuts.
Sometimes you have to go slow to go fast.
I don’t post this for any reason other than to encourage you to stop working in the business so you can work on the business. To stop the car so you can change the tire. To go slow to go fast.
Whatever metaphor works for you, it’s an ancient idea. As we have discussed on this blog, the Greek word for school was also the Greek word for … leisure. You can’t grow if you don’t stop long enough to think.
So do that. Schedule regular time on your calendar to review progress and make plans. Make a habit of meeting with the team about strategy instead of tactics. Revisit regularly you or your team’s progress on goals and figure out what will address the gaps.
Get some training.
Or: Sometimes clients hire Hip Socket because they know they need help getting intentional about making improvements. Or they need someone to hold the space they need to think something through.
Anyway, here are the completed Ninjas in all their glory. I hope you are able to pause long enough today to create something just as fulfilling.
